Course Description This course is specifically designed for students from the state of California. World History adopts a comprehensive, comparative approach to explore global events, processes, and interactions throughout the past, fostering a deeper understanding of the world's development. By integrating geography and history, students gain insight into the historical and geographic context of commonalities and differences among human societies, cultures, and environments. An emphasis on the importance of geography, natural environments, and the intricate relationships between people and their surroundings is included throughout the coursework. Students will employ diverse global and local analytical frameworks to recognize the challenges of the 21st century, marked by the increased global population, the need for sustainable environments, and a highly competitive and interconnected global economy. The curriculum explores large-scale historical patterns such as empire collapses, trade network expansions, wars, industrialization, and the diffusion of religions. Additionally, students examine inter-regional phenomena like pre-1500 C.E./A.D. trade networks, the trans-Atlantic slave system, and Eurasian unification under the Mongols. Regional events, including Latin America in the 18th century, the Russian Revolution, and the rise of Fascism in Europe, are scrutinized. The course culminates in a study of the modern interconnected world that has evolved in the latter half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century.
