Course Description
This course is specifically designed for students from the state of North Carolina.

This U.S. History and North Carolina Studies course provides a comprehensive exploration of American history while spotlighting the unique narrative of North Carolina. Beginning with foundational lessons on geography and government, students engage in forums and writing assignments that center on North Carolina's industrial, cultural, and political history. The course navigates through key historical periods, from westward expansion and the Civil War to the Gilded Age, World Wars, and the Civil Rights Movement. Specialized North Carolina-centric forums delve into state-specific events, such as the Woolworth Counter Sit-In and contemporary economic impacts. Writing assignments prompt reflections on government perspectives, societal reforms, and the role of North Carolinians in economic prosperity. The course concludes with discussions on globalization, the state's current economic influence, and a final exam, ensuring students acquire a comprehensive understanding of U.S. history within the context of North Carolina's distinctive contributions and challenges.
