Course Description
No matter what you plan on majoring in once you go off to college, you will have to take at least one math course before you graduate. Statistics is required by just about every major. Business, science, and technology degrees need basic calculus. Even many education and liberal arts programs require a course in graphical analysis and/or trigonometry.

Unfortunately, most high school math classes cannot prepare you for everything. That is why Math You Can Use In College was developed. This course is a derivative of the typical post-algebra, pre-calculus math class that will explore subjects that are actually useful for future college math courses. Essentially, we will spend time on concepts you could possibly use again and not on the stuff you will probably never see after high school.

In this course, we will focus our attention on the 'how-to' more than the 'why' of mathematics. Graphing calculators, appropriate software, and the Internet will be used to explore and solve many applications.

One final note: This is not an honors course, although it will be tougher than your freshman algebra class. If you intend to proceed into AP Calculus, a more traditional pre-calculus class might better suit your needs.
