Course Description In this course, students study the German language and culture through various topics, such as family structures and friendships, education, careers, food, health, environment, global challenges, entertainment, and leisure activities. Throughout all the topics the students will be comparing and contrasting culture and language and are building their language skills to narrate, inform, explain, and argue in the target language. The content of the course is based on the world-readiness standards for learning languages of ACTFL and incorporates the three modes of communication: interpersonal, interpretive, and the presentational mode in each lesson. Cultural competence is built through investigation, explanation and reflection of cultural practices, perspectives, and products. The course includes topics that connect to other disciplines and promotes the language use within and beyond the classroom. All lessons consistently set goals and incorporate self reflection of students. Students will build up language skills on the intermediate proficiency level This course is presented in German.
