Course Description The AP® Computer Science A course will introduce students to computer science and programming. Students will solve specific problems using their developing skills. The course includes creating algorithms to create solutions to problems, using data structures to help organize and review large volumes of data, reading and writing files, and creating and using objects in object-oriented programming in the Java language. The course is based on the 10 units of required content in the AP® Computer Science A Course and Exam Denotscription outlined by College Board. These are Primitive Types, Using Objects, Boolean Expressions and if Statements, Iteration, Writing Classes, Array, ArrayList, 2D Array, Inheritance, and Recursion. In addition, the course has five Computational Thinking Practice Skills that drive instruction: Program Design and Algorithm Development, Code Logic, Code Implementation, Code Testing, and Documentation. Windows or Mac Operating System required. This course does not include registration for the AP Exam Offering. Students planning to take the AP exam are required to register and sit locally for the AP Exam. Self Paced Scheduling Information Complete Courses - Full Credit Equivalent courses must be completed by your school's end date and within 9 months - 1/2 Credit Equivalent courses must be completed by your school's end date and within 4 months - 1/4 Credit Equivalent courses must be completed by your school's end date and within 2 months Abbreviated Courses - Abbreviated Full Credit Equivalent courses must be completed by your school's end date and within 60 days. - Abbreviated 1/2 and 1/4 Credit Equivalent courses must be completed by your school's end date and within 30 days.
