Course Description Students will build on their previous knowledge of the three main trigonometric functions from their study of Geometry and Algebra II with an introduction to the unit circle, degrees, and radians. They will then examine the different graphs and exact values of trigonometric functions. Students will model real world situations using the sin and cos functions and work through problems involving inverse functions, identities, reciprocal functions, and various formulas such as the Laws of Sines and Cosines and double angle formulas. Moving to statistics, students will start off with reviewing mean, median, and mode. They will determine how to create a boxplot with a five number summary of data as well as create histograms and frequency tables. Students identify different ways of collecting data including sample surveys, experiments, and simulations and the role that randomness and careful design play in the conclusions that can be drawn. Building on probability concepts that began in the middle grades, students use the languages of set theory to expand their ability to compute and interpret theoretical and experimental probabilities for compound events, attending to mutually exclusive events, independent events, and conditional probability.
