Course Description
This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of fundamental concepts and their applications while reinforcing and developing skills essential for continued success as life long learners. Algebra I is the foundation course for all high school mathematics courses. Emphasis is placed on solving and graphing linear and quadratic equations, as well as linear inequalities. Lessons include graphing linear equations on the coordinate plane, an investigation of slope, and forms of linear equations. Students will use factoring and the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations. Radical expressions are simplified and exponential functions will be introduced. Students engage in problem-solving situations where reading, writing, and discussion of ideas is fostered, with emphasis placed on making connections between algebra, geometry, and real-life situations.
