Course Description In the World Literature course, students will be reading some of the greatest literary works from all over the globe. Students will examine how historical context and location impacts point-of-view and the author's message. Students will read closely to determine what the text says and make logical inferences. They will analyze how literary elements are used to create meaning in texts: mood, tone, theme, and symbolism. Students will examine how complex characters develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme. Students write expository and persuasive essays. Finally, students will identify and apply proofreading and editing strategies to refine their writing. Readings include: Federigo's Falcon (from the Decameron), The Tempest, Two Friends by Guy de Maupassant, The Declaration of Independence and the Communist Manifesto, Macbeth, The Bet by Anton Chekov, and The Rival Dreamers.
