Course Description
A two-semester advanced computer science course for students with an interest in
learning the Java programming language in preparation for taking the College
Board’s Advanced Placement Computer Science A Exam. This course takes students
from the rudiments of Java syntax and style to a mastery of data structures and
algorithms, assert ions and except ions, standard searching and sorting, computer lab
projects, problem-solving techniques, and well-structured program design. Students
learn to code fluently using the programming language Java and become familiar
with and able to use standard AP Java classes. The goals of this course are
comparable to those in the introductory sequence of courses for computer science
majors offered in college.

The course is designed to be studied either at a student's own pace, or at a pace set by the teacher. Interspersed within a well-organized exposition are exercises to be completed using the embedded compiler, and tests that are graded automatically.

Students are required to take a placement test.
