Course Description The objective of the Pharmacy Technician program is to prepare students to obtain entry-level employment as pharmacy technicians in a hospital, retail, nursing home, or other pharmacy setting. Students are instructed in how to prepare prescriptions or medication orders under the supervision of a registered pharmacist; to handle inventory; to provide appropriate storage of drugs, to understand and use aseptic techniques; and to recognize various drug brand and generic names in working with prescriptions and/or medication orders. Students are also instructed in pharmaceutical calculations; label preparation; anatomy and physiology; patients with cancer and infectious diseases; basic chemistry of drug molecules; drug classes; adverse reactions and drug interactions; addictive drugs; and poison and drug emergencies. Students must have a high school diploma or GED to enroll in this program. Delivery Method Prerequisites Students must be 17 years of age and have a HS diploma or GED. Course Materials Penn Foster will have course materials, if any, shipped directly to students. There is no additional cost for course materials. |
