Course Description
The objective of the Electrician program is to provide the background in electrical theory required for most electrician licensing examinations. Trainees who desire to establish their own businesses as electrical contractors or to procure and sell electrical equipment will find this program beneficial as well as those seeking employment as construction, maintenance, or utility electricians. The program is designed for individuals who desire a practical working knowledge of electrical wiring of buildings for lighting, appliances, motors, and heating, and for those who need a general knowledge of operation and maintenance of electrical equipment in order to repair, maintain, and install such equipment. The topics covered include: safety; tools; formulas; conduit and conductors; electrical equipment; wiring electrical components; electric lamps; multimeter operations; wiring electrical circuits; lighting control; schematic diagrams; measurements; National Electrical Code; AC and DC motors and generators; fractional-horsepower motors; industrial motor applications and control; air-conditioning controls; electric heating; illumination principles; interior and exterior lighting practice; transformers; storage batteries; underground power systems; blueprint reading; and electrical estimating.
