Course Description
This course is written for students in grades 10-12. After successfully completing Personal Finance, you will be able to:

Ã‚Â· analyze, manage, and monitor your saving and spending habits.

Ã‚Â· identify your personal financial goals and determine ways to attain these goals.

Ã‚Â· distinguish between gross and net income.

Ã‚Â· compare and contrast among financial institutions.

Ã‚Â· assess the importance of maintaining good credit.

Ã‚Â· classify the different types of insurance and justify the purpose of having it.

Ã‚Â· evaluate good investment opportunities.

Ã‚Â· analyze future financial situations and apply the skills learned in Personal Finance in making wise and beneficial choices to live a secure and stable life.

The learner will:

1. evaluate financial decisions with basic money management principles;

2. understand the principle of budgeting small amounts in order to prepare for larger amounts;

3. explore various internet sites to help with financial management;

4. evaluate needs vs. wants in relation to available income;

5. determine short, medium, and long term goals;

6. understand five principles of saving;

7. compare banking options, banks, credit unions, commercial banks, savings and loan, and their various services;

8. understand how to use and not abuse credit;

9. manage risk with appropriate insurance;

10. explore investment opportunities
