Course Description

Journalism A introduces secondary school students to the world of journalism. They will see how their strengths and interests compare with those associated with careers in journalism. In this course, students will gain a basic knowledge of journalism, its early history, and its importance in our culture. Students will be introduced to different types of news stories and learn about the reporting and writing skills involved with each.

Journalism B introduces secondary school students to the world of journalism. Students will explore the changing role of journalism in today's society. They will gain a basic knowledge of radio, television, newspaper, and Internet journalism. This knowledge will include how each medium is relevant today, how it may adapt to economic changes and audience preferences, and how writing for each medium has its own characteristics.
